with 57 in Orsett camp and was discharged in 59 but would like to contact anyone who remembers him, his name was Tal Thomas,
and I believe he was the RQMS on discharge

I served as a gunner with 57th HAA Regt.RA at Orsett Camp from about May 1948 until the
end of 1950. When the Royal Signals vacated the camp, gunners had to be found to man the camp switchboard. I was one of the
chosen few. The Lance Bombadier in charge was Mike O'Reardon a failed officer cadet. It was quite a cushy number with no guard
duties, no piquet duty. 57 Regt was part of 6 AA Bde and the Brigadier was named Tailyour. (forgive the spelling) Before
the switchboard days I used to have to go out to AAOR Vange and man it for inspection. It was so hot in there I was often
caught asleep and got a rollacking for it. Happy days. I eventually rejoined as a regular and was posted to 27th Missile Regt.
where I became a clerk and ended my days as Sgt(AC) 1st Artillery Brigade, Dortmund. I belong to the Artillery Clerks' Association
and have attended reunions at Woolwich - next year will be at Larkhill. I am also Hon. Sec. of the local RAA Association.
Happy memories! Bob

Delighted to sww Bill Robertson's photograph of 57 HAA Regt RA pointing out Harry Spinks.
A fine soldier. He lived just down he road from me and I often visited him because he was a very ill person. Sadly he passed
away last year and the local branch of the RAA was well in attendance at the cremation.

IT'S Good Bye -
Info from the people that ran our Guestbook for us !! ??
Fri, 05 Oct 2007 (Philemon)
- With the last change yesterday, we introduced a glitch that resulted in a parsing error or entries displayed several times.
The problem is fixed now. We also cleared the guestbook dump cache where needed, so that you can download a corrected version.
Sorry for the inconveniences.
- For those whose guestbooks received new entries since they downloaded the dump, we also cleared the guestbook dump cache
once. Since no new entries are possible, this will be the final version.
Fri, 14 Sep 2007, ongoing (Philemon)
- Today I have sad news. The guestbook service will be discontinued.
It's been 11 years now. Those of you who have been with us for a long time know us for taking quality seriously. With the
years, a lot of things happened and some years ago focus changed away from the guestbook service. We did not want that to
affect you too much and so continued to provide the service for you. But for some time now, we have come to a point where
our high quality of standards cannot be met with the resources available to the guestbook service. That is why we have come
to this decision.
Let me explain the timeline: (current step is bold)
- Add possibility to download the guestbook entries as dump. -> done on 2007-09-14
- Add link to download guestbook dump to Control-Center -> done on 2007-09-19
- Wait at least 2 weeks -> done on 2007-10-03
- Disable posting of new entries -> done on 2007-10-04
- Wait at least 2 weeks -> done on 2007-10-18
- Replace guestbook's by download link -> done on 2007-10-24
- Wait at least 4 weeks
- Shut service down.
This timeline is chosen to have a balance between discontinuing the service and giving you the opportunity to handle the
situation, i.e. save the entries, maybe smoothly transfer to a different service and so on. There is a time window of 2 weeks
during which the service is not affected at all. Another 2 weeks with only posting being disabled. Only after a month the
guestbook pages will be replaced, that should give most users the chance to react.
You find the link to download the mentioned guestbook dump on your Control-Center, which is linked
to from the bottom of your guestbook in all default styles.
Update: Thank you for all your offers (e.g. giving a one-time or yearly donations) and suggestions, but rest assured that
we spent quite some time to consider all options over the course of the last couple of years, and none satisfied our ambitions.
From a solution we expect more than being able to run the service for another year or two (been there, done that), but to
enable us to envision a future another 11 years from now.
